Richard and Alexis bonded in 8th grade when they found out they were both transplants from different cities. While they didn't date back then (despite Richard's best attempts), they maintained a friendship over the years. This blossomed into a wonderful romantic relationship about four years ago.
It's so sweet to see these two together, it is plain to see how much they love each other, and how strong their relationship is based on their many years of close friendship.
Richard took many steps to trick Alexis so he could surprise her. He made preparations for weeks, involving friends and family in the planning. On the day of, he pretended to have work, and left her to hang out with her friend. This friend got her to get her nails done and dress up to go out to dinner. She lured Alexis out to the spot where Richard proposed by telling her she needed to look for a friend's lost AirPods.
As they turned a corner on the trail, there was a beautiful view off a cliff down at the rocks and ocean below, and Richard came around the corner and took a knee. Alexis couldn't contain her surprise and excitement as she squealed "Yes!' in delight.
